11 Commencements. 18 Shows. 1 Week.

The month of May is a much-anticipated time of the year for us. Our staff has been hard at work the weeks leading up to May, preparing for the busiest month of our season. Within one week, Mountain Productions traveled near and far, setting up staging for over 30 events including a number of commencements as well as multiple concerts and festival setups. Here are some of the staging structures that we built over the last week:

Commencements

University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania continued its commencement staging tradition with an iconic canopy stage with scaffold back walls, adorned with custom printed softgoods. Mountain Productions has been involved with UPenn’s graduation ceremony for many years. We also built an indoor staging system for UPenn’s Wharton School as seen below.

Building a Safety Culture – Mountain Productions’ 2015 Safety Training

Each year, Mountain Productions‘ road personnel attend a 3-day company training to plan and prepare for the season. It’s a great kickoff to another busy year and helps our crew refresh and stay up to date with safe work practices. As our company continues to grow, we make sure that all of our crew is on the same page and engage in training to maintain our high quality standards.

The first 2 days of this year’s training included topics such as on-site safety protocol, weather planning, and scaffold building. Safety starts the minute you clock in, and on-site safety practices are the foundation of a dedicated mentality that is carried to each of your events.

Mountain Productions’ 2015 Annual Safety School

One of the most important weeks of our year is not necessarily one of the hectic, fast-paced weeks in the midst of the summer season, but rather our annual safety training week at the beginning of the year. This is a mandatory week dedicated to educate and refresh our employees on safe work practices. This year, the training consisted of various safety speakers representing many familiar brands including 3M, Milwaukee, CRC, Brady and more. The first three days of Mountain’s safety school welcomed Jeff Burd of the PA Department of Labor who certified all Mountain employees in CPR and AED.

Exploring Mountain Productions’ Fleet

Mountain Productions’ fleet is comprised of flatbed, drop deck and box trailers. Having such diverse and extensive trailer capabilities allows us to load our equipment before trucks and drivers are present, giving us an advantage and keeping our fleet moving with as little interruption as possible. Our vehicles are made up of Tractors, Class B and C trucks along with many passenger vehicles, all used for transporting our fleet of trailers and mobile stages, not to mention our supervisors to and from sites across North America.

We are constantly growing our business, resulting in the need for a larger fleet. Recently, we added additional covered wagon style trailers which follow our Mountain Truss systems.

A Refreshing Scaffold Seminar

Consistency (among many other things) helps maintain long, successful relationships. You know that you have a solid partner when you can count on them to deliver the results you expect, time after time again. One of the best ways to maintain consistently good performance and exceptional service is to practice. We’ve all heard it before: “Practice makes perfect.” And I’m sure we can all attest to the truth in this statement. Considering the dynamic nature of our industry’s codes and regulations, coupled with the precise and rugged work required, it’s crucial to freshen up and review the basics throughout the year.

Happy New Year!

Our industry has seen yet another impressive year, with new technology and unique approaches to festivals, concerts and events. Grand structures standing as tall as multi-story buildings and as wide as a football field have become the norm nowadays, as well as the continued (and customized) use of mobile staging. Elaborate video displays and lighting arrangements are present at almost every festival. Event planners and promoters have also become more streamlined in the digital age that we live in, finding answers online through shared content, blogs and social media. What has not changed however, is the work ethic and dedication of the crews behind every show and event that takes place. Excuse the cliché, but we wouldn’t be here without them.
