With Summer fast approaching, Commencement season is here, and our teams have been working around the clock from Florida to Pennsylvania providing structures for the graduating class of 2023. Commencement season is an exciting time not only for the graduates but also for the Mountain Productions team.
See below a complete rundown of the staging, custom and additional structures used during this year’s Commencement season.
Palm Beach State College
Commencement season 2023 kicked off at Palm Beach State College on May 9th where we had the fantastic opportunity to provide the set-up for their 90th-anniversary Spring Commencement ceremony. Taking place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, our SL-100 mobile stage and SR decks were set up against a unique and beautiful backdrop. Our SL-100 mobile stage is the perfect option for quick builds thanks to its compact size and build time of less than one hour.
Rutgers University
Next up on our Commencement travels was a visit to Rutgers University on May 14th where our team provided the staging, flooring, and additional structures to make this a special Commencement ceremony for the 13,786 graduates. It was a busy load-in period for our crew as they decked out SHI Stadium with our SP-1 main stage, Thomas roof, tiered riser, 95,000 sq./ft of itrak flooring, and a whopping 5,500 chairs. In addition to these main structures, our crew also provided 2 side stages measuring 40’ x 28’ with black scrim backdrops and a gray roof skin as well as 20’ delay towers in the far endzone of the stadium and 4 delay platforms along the sidelines.
The University of North Carolina
We had an exciting return to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for their annual commencement ceremony held on May 14th at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Our team provided a modified version of our SP-1 main stage for the occasion which saw a total of 6,488 graduates receiving their well-deserved degrees. Our SP-1 main stage was designed and developed for rapid builds, having a 56′ wide performance area and a loading capacity of 146,800 lbs, making it the perfect option for Carolina’s graduating class of 2023.
University of Pennsylvania
It’s always great to make our return to Franklin Field for the University of Pennsylvania’s Commencement ceremony. It has become an annual tradition for our crew to provide our custom canopy structure and scaffold walls for this Commencement ceremony, and one that we always look forward to. This is not only a special time for our crew, but also for the graduating class who get the chance to celebrate their achievements in front of a packed crowd of 14,000 people.
University of Pennsylvania at The Palestra
In addition to the University Of Pennsylvania’s main Commencement ceremony at Franklin Field, our crew was also on hand at The Palestra for the Penn Engineering School ceremony. On the day, our crew provided not only the main stage, carpet, and platforms within the building but also the goalposts and truss structures on the grounds outside.
Wake Forest University
To conclude Commencement season, we wrapped up at Wake Forest University on May 15th, where more than 2,000 graduates were celebrated at their 2023 Commencement ceremony. For this year’s ceremony, we provided the main stage structure comprising 40′ x 42′ flat decks and Thomas and PBR roofing measuring 45′ in width x 47′ in depth, with a trim of 25′ – 32′. With clean lines and open sides, our Thomas roof system helped to create an open-air feel against the backdrop of the spectacular Wake Chapel building. In addition to staging, we also laid down 6,500 sq./ft of Terratrak flooring to protect the grounds of Hearn Plaza.
