Fashion shows are the epitome of glitz and glamour, and the fashion entities hosting the event have an elevated focus on aesthetics in every aspect: the models, the production, and the structure(s) itself. Providing staging for these shows requires unique solutions that may not be common in outdoor festivals and concerts. Mountain Productions has staged many fashion shows throughout its history, and we’ve learned the dynamic nature of these high-profile events firsthand. Many of the fashion shows we have provided staging for required elements that are unique to this industry—take a look at some of the fashion events we’ve been a part of in the past, and our unique solutions to each event’s production.
Scotch & Soda Fall Fashion Show 2016
This Dutch fashion company was rebranded and relaunched in 2001, and has become one of the hottest manufacturers of premium and high end clothing in the world. For New York’s Fashion Week, Scotch and Soda presented their Fall-Winter collection in front of jaw-dropping production effects and musical talent to create not only a fashion show, but an experience. Mountain Productions built the scaffold structure that supported the show, and the original challenge for this event was the need for completely open bays.
The Scotch and Soda job called for multiple scaffold towers assembled together with open bays to showcase the fashion models. Since multiple open bays were required, Mountain’s engineers needed to address the weight transfer, and added multiple uprights to the scaffold substructure. This design change provided the strength needed to accommodate the show.
Calvin Klein’s 40th Anniversary Event
Calvin Klein is a household name and is the home of 10+ original brands and some of the most iconic advertising campaigns in fashion. For Calvin Klein’s 40th Anniversary event, Mountain Productions was tasked with constructing an entire building in an empty parking lot for the show. Without missing a beat, Mountain’s world-class engineering team took the challenge head-on.
Our engineers designed a near three-story building with a balcony in the building’s rear. Mountain’s crew also built a custom bridge to allow access to the high line and catwalk. The main component used was our Supermega Truss (SMT) roof structure which provided the strength needed to support the building. Scaffold bays surrounded the SMT roof grid, and the scaffold substructure was used for the sheetrock framing. Mountain’s welding shop custom fabricated brackets for all of the lumber, both inside and outside of the structure, to attach to the scaffolding. Altogether, Mountain’s entire range of fabrication shops came together to build a completely unique structure for the Calvin Klein 40th Anniversary event.
Moncler Grenoble Fashion Show on Chelsea Piers
Famously known for their high-end down jackets and premium ski enthusiast apparel, Moncler launched their Grenoble line in the beginning of the fall in 2010. For the launch of the Moncler Grenoble collection, the French-born fashion brand hosted a unique show using a 360° open scaffold structure.
The model platform and main structure of the event was three-stories and constructed of scaffolding. A unique technique of scaffold building was used due to the amount of levels and open bay requirement. This project also called for a custom handrail to be designed completely out of wire rope. The event provided a jaw-dropping experience with multiple levels of model showcases, and Mountain Productions also built a custom staircase allowing the catwalk access to each level of the structure.
As a fully integrated staging and events company, Mountain Productions is built to accommodate the fashion industry and its creative production requirements. Our engineering staff and onsite crews work closely to execute each project, and provide the solutions necessary to host the most glamorous and awe-inspiring fashion events across the globe.
